A new ski resort

Melco China Resorts (MCR) is the largest operator and developer of ski resorts in China. It is currently transforming one existing ski area in Beijing and four existing ski areas in the North Eastern provinces of Heilongjiang and Jili, most notably Sun Mountain Yabuli. The company envisions a network of year-round village centered, destination mountain resorts in China.

According to the China Ski Association, the total number of ski visits in China increased by 109% to over 4 million between 1999 and 2004.

Melco has plans first for Sun Mountain Yabuli as an up-market recreational resort. It is 2.5 hours southeast of the city of Harbin by road or 90 minutes by train and is a village-centered mountain resort with three premium hotels under construction.

Interior vanThe Motorhome Hotel in the OCT East eco-tourism area in Shenzhen has both rooms and motorhomes available to guests. As well as the 200 guestrooms it plans to have 15 vehicles (one is pictured) in the second half of this year at the Wind Valley, each one sleeping six people, which guests can use to travel around the area’s lakes, forest and golf course.

Two of these vehicles are currently on display outside the Interlaken OCT Hotel Shenzhen (which is separate from the Motorhome Hotel).

The eco-tourism part is, according to the webiste of the Interlaken OCT Hotel Shenzhen, aimed at ‘bringing urbanites back to nature’. They have designed various tourist attractions to do so which include three valleys and three towns.

Interior vanThis hotel lies in the OCT East eco-tourism area near Shenzhen in southern Guangdong province. There are lakes, a forest and a golf course; it’s a big place. So for those who can’t make it around the resort on foot, the hotel has launched two motorhome-type vans (see pic). Each vehicle can sleep six people and it plans to have 15 vehicles by the second half of the year.

The resort is located in the Wind Valley of OCT East which covers nine square kilometers. The ‘European style’ hotel has 200 guestrooms, three restaurants, a ‘Gothic Bar’ (presumably to fit in with the European style), a theater for banquets/conferences and other MICE facilities.

The eco-tourism part is, according to its website, www.interlakenocthotel.com aimed at “bringing urbanites back to nature”. They have designed various tourist attractions to do so which include three valleys and three towns.
